Integrating technology in Math

Happy Fourth of July! I'm up in Rhode Island spending the long weekend with my family. I am looking forward to seeing some of my aunts, uncles, and cousins that I haven't seen in months. I hope you all have a fantastic time with your families today!

I'm double dipping today. I'm linking up with iTeach 1:1 and Learning to the Core for their Tune into Technology linky party.

I am also linking up with I'm Lovin Lit for her,Thursday Throw Down linky.

Math is one subject that I have had an easy time integrating with technology. Using technology makes it much more interactive for my students. I use my SMART Board for every lesson. I've created some fun activities to help the kids learn different strategies. One of my favorites is the What's My Rule activity. I have it for multiplication and division as well as addition and subtraction.

My kiddos love this activity and talk about it all year. The students slide the number from the black side of the page behind the bear to the white side. The number "changes" and the students need to find out the "rule" for the numbers.

I also love using ipads. I've created a lot of QR code task cards to help my students learn and review. A lot of the activities are free in my TPT store. Feel free to check them out. My students love solving problems using the QR codes.

They don't realize that they are actually solving more problems doing the codes than they would do if I assigned them a worksheet. They are also having much more fun than if they were doing a worksheet!

What do you do to integrate technology in math? How do you make your lessons more interactive?

  1. My kiddos love QR Codes too-I totally agree, they don't always even know they are learning with QR Codes!! Thanks for the QR freebie! :) SmartBoards are great aren't they? They truly do make learning more interactive! Thanks for linking up!

  2. I like the QR code tip! I need to think out of the box on how to use more QR codes in our iPad-less classrooms. I'm almost at the point where I want to say, "Okay kids, pull out your cell phone and ..." but I wonder if my admin will not be happy.

  3. The fact students don't realize they could be doing worksheets is absolutely priceless---and doing more work. I love it

  4. I'm with you about the QR codes. I kept waiting all year to see if my kids would get sick of them and realize they were basically doing worksheet type problems.. but that never happened thankfully! QR codes are magical! Thanks for linking up with us!

  5. I love the idea of using QR codes with ipads! We only have one ipad cart in our school and it only has 20 ipads in it so it's hard to think of ways to use it when students have to share ipads. This would work great though!

  6. I'm DEFINITELY going to use the white/black trick on my SMARTBoard. Genius! I also agree that it's amazing how those dang QR codes can transform ANY activity into something FUN!
