One of the books I love sharing with my students is Zero the Hero by Joan Holub.
This book is an adorable book that shows the value of zero. I use this book when I am teaching my students the properties of addition and multiplication.
Here is the write-up from Amazon:
"Zero. Zip. Zilch. Nada. That’s what all the other numbers think of Zero. He doesn’t add anything in addition. He’s of no use in division. And don’t even ask what he does in multiplication. (Hint: Poof!) But Zero knows he’s worth a lot, and when the other numbers get into trouble, he swoops in to prove that his talents are innumerable."
My students love the comic-style part of this book. It makes it a little tricky to do as a read-aloud, but it is perfect to share in small groups.
What are your favorite Math Mentor Texts?
I like that Zero is a Superhero that will get the attention of half of my students from the start. Thanks for sharing an awesome book!
