AAAWWUBBIS-Tunes Tuesday

I'm so excited to link up with Nick from Sweet Rhyme & Pure Reason for Tunes Tuesday!

Let's face it, grammar can be dreadfully boring. I remember HATING grammar when I was in school, so I've tried to think of fun ways to teach it to my kiddos.

Using a SMART Board to make the topic interactive is one way that makes it much more meaningful.

Another way to make learning grammar exciting is using Mentor Texts. When we hear Mentor Texts we normally think about books, but songs and poetry can also be used!

The song "If I Had a Million Dollars" (click to download words) is a great way to teach comma usage. I have created a SMART Board presentation (click to download presentation) based on Jeff Anderson's AAAWWUBBIS lesson in his book Mechanically Inclined using this song and a picture book mentor text example When I was Five.

. When I Was Five

The song is silly-so that instantly gets their attention...and let's be honest, what student isn't able to come up with their own example of; If I had a million dollars?

Do you use songs to help teach student's grammar? What are your favorites to use?
