Math Mentor Text-Sir Cumference and the Dragon of Pi

Happy Sunday-I hope many of you are able to to enjoy a quiet weekend! Happy Mother's Day to all of you moms! I hope you all have a fantastic day, you deserve it!
I'm linking up with Collaboration Cuties for Must Read Mentor Texts. This weeks topic is math.

One of my favorite picture book series to share with my kids in math is the Sir Cumference Series. Every year, I share Sir Cumference and the Dragon of Pi with my fourth graders for Pi Day.
It is a great book with lots of math puns. My kids are a bit young to get all of them, but once one child catches on, they all start to get it. I love this book because it shares facts about Pi in a fun and kid-friendly way. They are able to hear and see how Pi relates to the the circumference of a circle. I also have my kiddos color a Pi symbol while they eat ice cream pie after we have finished the story.

What are your favorite mentor texts to use in math? Be sure to head over to Collaboration Cuties for some other great book ideas!

    1. I don't think it is part of CC, but it was part of my school's math curriculum. We are taking the summer to fully align our math to CC so I may do it as a "just for fun day" in the future...we shall see.

  4. I'm for anything that lets you have ice cream pie afterwards!! I've always thought this book was too advanced for my class but I am inspired to give it a try (just for the Pi : ))
