Manic Monday-Restaurant Menu Math Freebie

I can't even begin to tell you how nice it is to be back into my routine. It is amazing how one event can upset your life and throw everything off for a while.
Anyway, I've missed sharing freebies with you on Mondays so I am very happy to link up with Classroom Freebies for Manic Monday!

Classroom Freebies Manic Monday
This week I am sharing a new math activity that I created for my students when we were working through our decimal unit. This freebie has the students working alone and with a partner to practice rounding, adding, and subtracting decimals using menus. I used menus that I received in my junk mail, but any menu would do.

My students enjoyed this because it helped them to see how decimals are used in the real world. My students are willing to take the time to learn something if they know they will use it "for real." You can download it here.

What do you use to make math "real" for your students?

Be sure to check out Classroom Freebies for more great freebies this week!

  1. I love this idea! Even useful in my French as a Second Language class, to get students practicing numbers in an authentic context!
    Thanks!

  2. Thanks for sharing! I don't teach math anymore, but I'll agree that they are always more engaged when it is connected to real life. I always likes using menus and such.
