Each December my students and I study the genealogy of Christ during our Bible classes. To make the study more interactive and memorable the students make an ornament for the major people that we study.
To kick-off our study, the students make a Christmas wreath using their hands the day before our Thanksgiving Break.
When we come back from Thanksgiving break the students and I start our study. We study the "major" people; Abraham, Issac, Jacob, Rahab, Ruth, King David, King Hezekiah, and King Josiah. Then we also make an ornament of a mini nativity, and a dove-standing for the peace God wants to give us.

What do you do to make learning more interactive in your classroom? Head over to Erin's blog to check out other great ideas!
What an AWESOME idea, Bethany! I love the creativity involved and the awesome message it communicates to your students and their families.
ReplyDeleteDo you buy all of the supplies or have it donated? How much do you prepare for the kids ahead of time? Do you make them all together as a class or do you pull students aside to do it?
Thanks for sharing, friend!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this idea. We have a Jesse tree in my classroom where each student designs an ornament for one of Christ's ancestors to hang on the tree. I like how your wreath allows them to make many ornaments. So much better!!! I think we will do Jesse wreaths next year. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteSo, I'm wondering who else teaches at a religious school.
